Outstretched Hands are Safe

Outstretched Hands are Safe is a book intertwining “Outstretched Hands Have Good Bones” written by Katie Bird and photo collection “SAFE 2019” by Wouter Van De Voorde.

This book was an initial exploration into materiality and tactility and how that responds to the contents of the book itself. The essay touches on ideas of queer girlhood and how that trauma has extended into adulthood. The text is accompanied by these subtly poignant photos surrounding themes of home and deterioration and how the sequence of these images create a narrative story of acceptance and relearning.
